Served at the 2025 Holiday Fare Wine Trail, Reserve Cellars

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
¼ tsp salt
1 ⅓ cups sugar
¼ cup light molasses
¾ cups soft shortening
1 egg

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
Sift flour with soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt.
In a large mixing bowl with a mixer at medium speed, gradually add 1 cup sugar to the shortening, creaming until light and fluffy-about 5 minutes. Blend in egg and molasses.
At low speed beat in flour mixture until well mixed, scraping down sides of bowl with spatula. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Pinch off pieces of dough and shape into 1 ¼ inch balls. Roll in remaining sugar.
Place 2 ½ inches apart on cookie sheets, bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack and cool.

Yield: 3 1/2 dozen
