Adam Puchta Winery
Adam Puchta Winery is the country’s oldest, continuously owned, family farm winery in the US. Our story begins with a boat ride to America in 1839. John Henry Puchta brought his family, including his son, Adam, to settle in the Frene Creek Valley of Hermann, Missouri. John planted vineyards and began to farm while Adam drove a herd of cattle to the California gold rush in 1853. He returned & produced his first vintage using his father’s grapes, opening in 1855. By 1870, Adam Puchta Winery was well-established as a winery. As production increased, Adam’s son, Henry John, joined the business, and the name was changed to Adam Puchta & Son Wine Company in the 1880s.
Production continued until Prohibition closed the winery’s doors. The tradition of winemaking stayed with the family as Henry and his son, Everett, continued to make the legal amount of wine for family use.
Adam Puchta Winery reopened under the guidance of Adam’s great-grandson, Randy, and son, Timothy, in the fall of 1990. The winery continues to be run by Parker, the 7th generation. Parker and his wife, Sarah, are bringing up their son, Tanner, 8th generation, on the family winery property just like so many family members before them.
